Got Milk?
I don’t drink milk (it’s OK on cereal) so I don’t get too concerned about the cost. In an article on milk in the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram, Barry Shlachter reports:
“A milk war has begun. Competing supermarket chains are slashing prices on milk due to a worldwide dairy glut. . .”
I am reminded of the words from the writer of Hebrews 5:12 – “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of God’s revelation. You need milk, not solid food.” There seems to be a glut of “milk” in a lot of Churches these days. People are more interested in hearing whatever it is that makes them feel good than they are in hearing the Truth that calls Believers to be soldiers in the war against the onslaught of evil in the world.
The real “food” of the Word of God reminds us that “friendship with the world is hostility toward God” (James 4:4) and we are not to ever again be “entangled in the chains of slavery to sin.” (Galatians 5:1)
There is always a need for the “milk.” (see 1 Peter 2:2). Most of us, however, just need to move on toward greater obedience to the revealed Truth of God’s Word, and a maturity of faith that measures us against the stature of Jesus Christ.
