Growing Old Wisely
Do you think you will live to be 100 years old? Some people do. Many people complain about the difficulties of old age, but most people are hoping they will get a bit older as time goes by, as opposed to not growing older.
Georgina Harwood celebrated her 100th year in style Saturday by skydiving in Cape Town, South Africa. Her friends and family joined her, watching safely from the ground. (Mashable)
After skydiving, Ms. Harwood jumped in a shark cage with some of her family members and “swam” with the sharks. She told everyone to give something to charity rather than give her gifts of chocolate, scarves, whisky, or other items because she didn’t really want them. You can say stuff like that when you are 100 years old.
We need to remind ourselves whether we are near 100, or only 50, or coming up to 21, life is fragile. Knowing when it will end is not given to us, but how we handle the aftermath is. As we approach the time of year when the Church of Jesus Christ celebrates His resurrection, we must also remember what it was that brought about His death at the hand of God. It was our sin, our transgression of God’s law, which rendered us incapable of living in eternity with God. We are separated from Him who is absolutely holy by our unholiness. Christ’s sacrificial death on Calvary’s cross provided redemption for all mankind who would repent of their sin, place their faith and trust in Christ, thereby accepting His grace. (See Ephesians 2:8-9)
The book of Hebrews tells us that each of us will die. . .and then face judgment from God if we leave this life unredeemed (see Hebrews 9:27-28). Don’t allow the Enemy to lull you into thinking you have a lot of years to decide. The Scripture is clear – Today is the day of salvation (Hebrews 2:1-3). Discover, decide. Do it now!
