Growing Wise
“To know wisdom and instruction, to perceive the words of understanding, to receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, judgment, and equity; to give prudence to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion–a wise man will hear and increase learning, and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel. . .” (Proverbs 1:2-5)
Seeking to gain an understanding of man’s relationship to God; man’s relationship to himself; and man’s relationship to others, is the thematic focus of the book of Proverbs. It may be, short of accepting the Gospel message of redemption through the blood of Christ, the most vital activity in which one can engage.
Every day, every month, every year our Nation appears to move further and further away from an understanding of genuine knowledge and wisdom. We have (at the minimum) substituted texting for conversation, lost our ability to effectively utilize our language (at the maximum) for clear communication, and failed to understand the nature of mature relationships with other people. And the results are evident. Most people have little or no idea or understanding of real Truth, Llove, Peace, Hope, Joy — our society suffers and our World sinks deeper into the abyss we do understand – chaos, bitterness, anger, selfishness and pain.
Only the infinite llove of God in Christ Jesus changes that! We need the wisdom of Solomon (and others whose “sayings” are the collection which is Proverbs) to survive.
