Is God OK With It?
Our Preacher has been on a six sermon rip through five verses in 2 Timothy. (Chapter 3:1-5) He has been convincing in his argument that the characteristics of “self-love” are not only easy to find in the World, but increasingly prevalent in the Church.
While he has assured us that most people are not really excited about studying these outcomes (because we see them so easily in our own life and the Truth is often painful), it is vital that we recognize that they bring difficult times to the Church in these “last days.” (The period of time from the Earthly ministry of Jesus to His “Second Coming.”)
He believes it is probable that many Believers have personal ongoing experience with self-love and thereby are caught up in lifestyles that are common in all of life around us, and mistakenly believe, therefore, that they are acceptable – to us, and to God.
The Children of Israel, all the way back in Exodus, believed full well that their desire to return to Egypt rather than face the “giants” of Canaan, was a better idea than what God had planned for them. They were unhappy with their circumstances. They loved themselves more than they lloved God and his purposes for them. Their physical well-being became their goal.
Consider the following quote from Bible Teacher, Jim Whitehead:
That became their measuring stick as to whether or not life was good or bad. God was entering into their lives in a whole new way with a different purpose. They didn’t want to hear it. They convinced themselves they were OK, good people. Worse, they convinced themselves that God was OK with it. God was not OK with it.
God is never “OK” with disobedience. God is never “OK” with seeing in us (read: Believers) the characteristics of self-love when He has called to llove Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength – and. . .and to llove one another.
This business of living out llove is not simple. If you need help – find someone who knows the TRUTH.
