It’s A Gift?
One sure way to get into lots of trouble is to mess with somebody’s concept of how Government works. Be that as it may, I want to make sure we understand that some things aren’t exactly what some people think they are.
I read with interest the article in the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram regarding the “stimulus monies” -“Texas got $14.3 billion in contracts, grants and loans, second only to California, which drew $23.4 billion in stimulus aid. More than 100 grants and more than two dozen contracts, went to Tarrant County, records show.”
There is little one can say about how that money is being spent, in most cases, without making someone really doubt one’s commitment to real needs. The one exception might be the “lights” at Softball World in Euless, i.e. “spending $454,200 in federal stimulus funds to replace lighting at Softball World, a city park in Euless.”
But that is not the point of this thought, rather, I think there are a multitude of folks who think this money (used for whatever purpose) was miraculously harvested from the Potomac River in Washington. You know, kinda like Jesus getting his tax monies from the mouth of a fish.
The sad truth is that every penny of the stimulus money spent anywhere on anything is money that came out of your pocket, and mine (or our children and grandchildren). Our Government produces mostly (only?) regulation and noise (or vice versa), and I wish they would “give our money away” with a little more wisdom, or better yet, just give it back to the people from whom it was confiscated.
Only the Father in Heaven gives good and perfect gifts. The Government, dare I say it, is just “robbing Peter to pay Paul.”
