Thought For The Day

Let’s Do A Survey

August can’t be a good month for 10 hotel chains across the United States. One group is reporting on the “quality” of hotel rooms, and while one would would expect that all 10 chains have a few bad rooms, it would appear that the chains are just – well, you wouldn’t want to stay there.

Funny thing is – I stayed at one of the hotel chains listed among the 10 worst just a week or so ago. While I didn’t discover those things listed which would scare  a hog from staying there, I did have one complaint.

Well, here is the gist of the article:

Two surveys have recently come out about the quality of stays in America’s hotels, one in the July issue of Consumer Reports, and the other published on July 25 by J.D. Power & Associates, and many national chains fell well below par. At some locations, instead of clean rooms, guests have reported cockroaches and bed bugs, stains on the sheets, and strange odors they couldn’t identify.

One customer complained about a “sticky substance on the bedspread.” Here’s my question. How did he know it was sticky? Surely he didn’t “touch it”!!!!

At the hotel (on the list of the worst 10) my lovely bride and I inhabited for a short night, we found the room was clean, quiet, the bed was reasonably comfortable, and the wi-fi was just great. But, I did have a complaint. We were rather late going to breakfast (provided with the room) and found the dining area a sticky mess (syrup), out of food and drink, cereal all over the floor, spilled milk on every counter and just generally unpleasant. When I spoke with the front desk person, he was surprised (he hadn’t visited the room for an hour or so), and advised me that a group of kids from a CHURCH has been through there just before we arrived. Hummmmm. (He also gave me a discount on the bill.)

I was wondering if we ought to do a survey of Churches. How would we fare on cleanliness, comfort, value to cost ratio, A/C suitability, and the most imortant measurement, the pot luck lunch?

I’m glad I am not in the “value” hotel business. But I am glad somebody is. I just can’t afford those Omni Regents. Also, I think I will start working on a survey for Churches. Who knows, we might make the list of the 10 best. In fact, I am sure we would.
