Marijuana
A little marijuana never hurt anyone. That’s the line I hear from so many young folks these days. Is it true – let’s see:
The Watauga teen was fatally stabbed Friday night in the 1800 block of Green Trail in Keller during what Keller police called a marijuana deal gone bad. (Rameriz@startelegram.com)
So now we have 1) a young man who has lost his life, 2) a young man charged with murder, 3) probably an accomplice who will be caught and charged with accessory to murder, 4) a young mother with no husband or father for her child, 5) a child who has no father (and never a natural father), 6) two or more grieving families, and undoubtedly some distraught friends, 7) multiplied thousands of dollars in bonds, court fees, attorney fees, and other cost in the judicial system, 8) probably several years in prison for the perpetrators at high cost to the tax payers, and 9) the loss of several lives from productive contribution to society.
All this for a little marijuana. How often is this scenario repeated around our Nation? Now the question. Would the legalization of marijuana end these kinds of problems?
I don’t know the answer to that. I think my answer would be no. I do know this – it’s a morality problem more than a drug problem. Until we understand that, we are never going to win these battles.
