Thought For The Day

New Tactic

Do you ever have hair-brain ideas? I was just thinking about winning wars (I know, you though I was busy working at my job).

I have this feeling that we have not yet won the one in Iraq. . .and if history serves me right, no one has ever won one in Afghanistan. We have been turning the security of Baghdad over to the locals, and yesterday, the city was blown up in several places all at the same time. Sounds like a bit of a problem to me.

I don’t know how much soldiers cost, per person, to train, outfit, supply and support for a year, but I was just thinking of a plan we might try. I know it’s chances for working may be slim and none. . .but that kind of seems like the plan we have now.

Since the $700 billion TARP thing has been extended to this time next year, what if we took a measly $100 billion of that and spent it on 1 million soul-winners. We would send a million folks, at an annual salary of $50,000, and full expenses (play like that would be another $50,000) to Iraq and let them start winning folks to Christ. Now if my math is right (and it seldom is), for $100 billion we would get 1 million people witnessing and sharing their faith (God’s plan), and perhaps God would see fit to give each missionary a harvest of 100 souls, which would be about two per week, which would be over 100,000,000 new believers in Iraq (how many people live there, anyway?), and wouldn’t that change the landscape politically for peace?

Then we could bring our armed forces and our missionaries home – saving all that money, saving all those lives, and God would make Iraq a Christian nation of peace-lloving neighbors.

I know it won’t work – I said it was a hair-brain idea. First, how would we ever find 1,000,000 soul winners? It’s tough to find any. Then, how would we convince the government to change course and “give” $100 billion to something that is not foolish and wasteful? How many Believers would “give” (remember they are getting $100,000) a full year of their life to missions, anyway? We would have to tap the Mormons, and they don’t know salvation’s plan, which is not a good thing. And who knows, maybe God won’t help if He was kidding when He said He is not willing “that any should perish.”

Never mind. . .I’ll get back to work.
