Thought For The Day

People and Weather

Can one be reminded of God’s people by the weather. In the weather department we measure the days by the temperature of the air. In the Church we measure commitment to the Body by “the temperature” of the Believer. Interestingly there seems to be some parallels. For example, last week around where I live there there were temperatures in the 70+ degree range, and this week the temps are in the 32 degree range and falling fast. Sometimes we see that same variableness in the life of Believers making it impossible to know what will be the result of that variableness on the efforts of the Church.

It is simply true that because weather changes  we can can  understand that on any given day you might need just a T-shirt and on the next a heavy coat. While the predictiveness is not as easy as it is in weather, Believers seem to vary between being warm (hot) for commitment to task at times, and at other times failing to even “show up” (cold) when the Body of Christ gathers, The reality of that fact does not come as a criticism, rather, if one understands that a more stable temperature is desirable (for the most part) one might wish to determine how a more steady comfort level might be achieved. Perhaps the following suggestions might help one find a perfect level for increasing temperature.

Start and end each day with prayer. (see 1 Chronicles 23:30) It doesn’t have to be long, just a moment with the Father. (Longer warms the  heart and mind.)

Read a measure of Scripture. (see 1 Peter 2:2) How excellent it is to learn and know the Truth, and to grow daily. (More Scripture equals more knowledge which heats the heart to share the Truth.)

The family of God is in desperate need of folks who are ready to join others on the front lines of reaching the World for Christ. Do not let the occasional cold heart become a constant companion.
