Saving Money
I have to confess I am lloving these new Health Care proposals. Heaven knows we need reform in this country related to Health Care. And who should make those proposals for change? Congress, of course! After all, look how well they have run every other Government program.
In an AP article by Erica Werner I gleaned the following “facts.”
“A new report from the Congressional Budget Office on how the Senate bill would affect premiums. . .It said that by 2016, premium prices for Americans working at large companies, about 70 percent of the under-65 population, would be between zero and 3 percent lower on average than would otherwise be the case. At small companies, covering 13 percent of the under-65 population by 2016, the average premium would be between 1 percent higher to 2 percent lower on average. CBO said that for individuals buying insurance on their own, 17 percent of the non-elderly population, premiums would rise by between 10 percent and 13 percent on average. But more than half that group is expected to receive federal subsidies that would result in premiums as much as 59 percent less costly on average than would happen under current law.”
So, here’s the deal (as I understand it). Everyone is going to get better coverage, more care, quicker access to physicians and hospitals, better but less expensive drugs, along with more preventive measures which will insure a healthful, longer, and more productive life. And all that will be “guaranteed” by Congress, the same folks who bring us Social Security, the Post Office, Amtrak, Medicare, Immigration reform, and border security. I know I am feeling really good about this.
I ran this by my Pastor, and he thinks we can bring this kind of forward thinking into the operation of the Church. We can hire more staff, have more Worship services, Bible Studies, activities of all sorts and kinds especially for kids and youth, upgrade the current buildings and build a state-of-the-art Family Life Center, computerize everything, install all the latest and best A/V equipment, buy that 60 passenger Prevost, and raise salaries 10-15% across the board. We will, of course have to ask every member to cut their giving by 1-3%, except those who are tithing. We will ask them to cut back by 6%. Sunday guests will be asked to take a few dollars from the offering plates as they go by.
Well, that should do it!
