Saving the Earth
I don’t want to beat a dead horse — well, maybe I do. I want to remind you that trying to stay with the thinking of the World, and live with the Truth of God’s revealed Word in your heart, is an impossibility.
I have listened (off and on) to a little bit of the speeches at the United Nations this week, especially our President. He made a couple of statements (that I heard) regarding the changes we need to make referencing carbon emissions, greenhouse gases, etc. What struck me was the idea that if we don’t make the changes he recommends, we will not be able to “save our planet.”
One thing I know for sure is that one can’t have it “both ways.” Either you can contribute to saving or destroying the planet, or you can believe the Truth. Paul wrote, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, to the Colosse Church – “He (Christ) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation; because by Him everything was created, in Heaven and on Earth, the visible and the invisible. . .all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things and by Him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:15ff; emphasis mine)
This planet we call Earth is His possession, after all He created it out of nothing, speaking it into existence, and it is “held together by His power,” Your carbon emissions, greenhouse gases, one ton dual wheel four by four, nor any other activities or power, are going to wrest control from Him. If the Arctic icecaps are melting (and many respected scientists claim the icecaps are enlarging at the moment), it is because He (the Lord Jesus Christ) chooses it to be so. Our President is wrong in believing it is the exhaust from cars in Boston.
Bottom line here is simple. You can believe the wisdom of the World, which the Scripture calls foolishness, or you can believe the Word of God. Pick one! I’ve made my choice — you can probably tell.
