Sex Talk
Ed Young Jr. (Fellowship Church, Grapevine, TX) has always been good at getting publicity. This latest attempt has really caught on – newspapers, TV, radio, and water-coolers. Everybody, it seems, wants to talk about sex, and when someone at Church makes it sound titillating, well, the race is on. Of course Ed often adds a little unGodly spice when he talks about it, which makes it even more exciting to the worldly mind.
I asked my Pastor what he thought and he was a bit non-committal. He agrees that sex is a wonderful thing in the life of a married couple (man and woman), and everyday is a fine time for such things. He thought it more appropriate, however, at least from his perspective (he’s old and a little out of touch), that maybe the “Church” ought to be making some other suggestions- here’s his “short” list (and I don’t know where he came up with the “hour.” Maybe you can figure that. . .):
Set aside an hour every day for the next seven days to read and meditate on a passage of Scripture.
Set aside an hour every day for the next seven days for effectual, fervent prayer.
Focus on being available one hour each day for the next seven days to help someone who is struggling with difficult issues in life.
Set aside one full hour every day for the next seven days to talk with our spouse, our kids, to help with the dishes, the laundry, the homework.
Practice the discipline of llove toward someone we barely know every day for seven days.
Utilize one hour every day for the next seven days to “be still, and know that He is God,” which would be called Worship.
My pastor thinks that “sex” will find an opportunity, as it should, but all of the above will make even that relationship better.
Of course, it won’t be nearly as much fun to talk about, and, I can promise you, the “media” won’t show any interest at all.
