Storms Approaching
I’ve been hearing about the storm approaching my location for a couple or three days now. They (the weather people) keep moving it back a day or two, so Wednesday has become Thursday – has become Friday, and I am suspecting that I might not see a drop of rain this week. So much for the cancelled picnic I was looking forward to.
It reminds me that we often wait for, look for, anticipate negative things in our life that never come to fruition. We are confident someone is going to “say something,” or “do something,” and we are going to be hurt or become angry when they do. Things are going to go badly at work, the Stock Market is going to continue downward, or the first earthquake on record in this spot will happen today. The worry during the waiting becomes the problem and ultimately nothing ever happens regarding what we were waiting for.
I think we need to take a position similar to the one used by those who live by a weather rock. They put a rock outside their door and they make a quick check before they leave home in the morning.
If there is snow on the rock – it’s cold. If the rock is wet – it’s raining. If the rock is hot – the sun is bright and the day will probably bring a wish for air conditioning. If the rock is gone – the wind might be a bit brisk.
One thing I know for sure. The rock makes fewer mistakes than the local weatherman. Only God knows what the weather will do – all else is just a guess, at best.
