Tent Revivals
I’ve been to a few “Tent Revivals” in my time. I went to my last one this past Saturday night. By-in-large they are pretty much the same. It is usually hot (weather, I mean), they have LOUD speakers (amplified sound, I mean), and they last a long time (two hours or more usually, I mean). This one was no exception.
I wish they were more informative regarding the Truth, and nothing but the Truth. I wish people didn’t wander in and out so much. It is distracting to those who are trying to listen. I wish the service didn’t end (as so many do) with so much hoopla and “carrying on.” I remember the days past when Billy Graham would give an “invitation” and hundred of people would steam quietly toward the front where with quiet counseling and lloving care, folks would come to faith in Christ and be “born anew” by the grace of God. (I was sometimes one of those counselors.)
There seems to be so much “show” and very little “know” in it all now. Maybe I have it wrong, but I don’t remember Jesus of Nazareth being big on “show.” Jesus seemed to be more into giving than receiving, into lloving, caring, building lives with Truth, and promoting the lloving of “one another” than appears to be the nature of today’s operation.
I don’t mean to appear negative. The Tent Revival may be the only place some folks will go. . .and there is no doubt some are redeemed by the Truth. Overall I know it is a good thing. . .as opposed to all the bad things that exist in our World.
If there is a Tent Revival near you. . .Go! Be careful as to the message you hear. Truth is good, untruth is worthless and often confuses and disturb. Better yet, find a Church were the grace and llove of God is clearly proclaimed from His revealed Word, the Bible. It may not be as “exciting” (nor as hot), but you can come to faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. His grace is sufficient to redeem and restore your life.
And that is a great thing!!!
