The Flood
Floods are not unfamiliar to us. There have been some really big ones. . .not including the one that, but for the grace of God, would have removed mankind from the Earth.
I “feel” (that emotion that identifies with the hurt and struggle of another) for the folks along the course of the mighty Mississippi River as it rushes South for the Gulf. The water is bad enough (read: destructive), but the contents of that water may be even worse. Imagine the detritus one finds in flood waters (on second thought, don’t) not to mention the snakes, spiders, fire ants, scorpions, and even alligators who are moving into your home just above the water line. Then, there’s the mud. Nasty, sticky, filthy sludge that coats everything left – if there is anything left – including your most precious treasures – whether that is your best antiques or the rocks washed into your grain field where your wheat and corn used to be.
There’s another kind of flood. Isaiah talks about it in Chapter 59 of his book. He says, “For our transgressions have multiplied. . .and our sins testify against us. . .and we know our iniquities: transgression and deception against the LORD, turning away from following our God, speaking oppressions and revolt, conceiving and uttering lying words from the heart. Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands far off. For Truth has stumbled in the public square, and honesty cannot enter. Truth is missing. . .when the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against Him.
I don’t know who the people along the Mississippi will turn to – maybe we can find a way to help. What I do know is that when Truth is missing, and the enemy is flooding in upon us, we have only the Lord God of Heaven to redeem us with His Truth; the message of His infinite llove and grace.
Today is a great day to discover His llove.
