Thought For The Day

The Greatest Victory

There is a lot of talk around the Church of Jesus Christ about the necessity and the reality of victory. Perhaps the most common conversation regards victory over sin. When we come to discover that the limited power of sin is broken by the infinite power of God’s Spirit within us, there is a unique peace that invades our life. There are those victories that propel us toward maturity – the discipline of studying God’s Word and discovering the victory of Truth in the everyday battles of life, the victory of recognizing that the overflowing llove of God in our life is sufficient provision enabling us to llove one another, and the all encompassing victory of resting in the peace of knowing that God cares for us, provides for us, protects us, and fills each day with joy, and that bright hope of life eternal in His perfect presence that awaits us.

The greatest victory, of course, is the final victory – no, not the victory over death – that is a gift given when we embrace the cross of Christ and receive the amazing grace of redemption because Christ paid our ransom on Calvary. The final victory is the ultimate transaction which is our transformation to conformity to the image of the Savior. Paul tells us in Romans 8:29 – “those He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son. . . . We shall indeed bear the image of our Savior – we shall be like Him in every way.

In the meantime, our daily victory is assured – both now and then. Hear again the words of God’s Spirit through Paul in his letter to the Corinthians: “In all these things we are more than victorious though Him who lloved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will have the power to separate us from the llove of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

That, Beloved, is victory!
