The Shack – On Fire!
I am one of those individuals who MAY believe that we need to be careful regarding our criticism (of a book for example) of something we have not read. So you need to know – I have read The Shack. I don’t recommend it for anyone who is ignorant of God’s Word, spiritually immature, or confused about Truth.
I was advised about another book, and it was suggested I might want to read it. Here is the quote from the site that is promoting the new book –
In Burning Down ‘The Shack,’ James B. De Young, Th.D., a graduate-level professor of Greek and biblical [sic] studies for 30 years, shows just how spiritually flimsy The Shack truly is, and how its enticing yet false doctrine is stealthily cracking the foundations of countless Christians’ faith—and rotting away their very concept of the true God. With the skill of an investigator and the heart of a counselor, De Young addresses essential issues about biblical [sic] doctrine and scriptural truth. Bringing to light a series of troubling questions about The Shack and its author, De Young clearly shows how this runaway hit is little more than a runaway from truth.
Whether I get around to reading this new book or not, I have a problem with “why it is needed.” If its (The Shack) enticing yet false doctrine is stealthily cracking the foundations of countless Christians’ faith—and rotting away their very concept of the true God, on what have we built the foundations of our faith? The solid Rock of Christ Jesus is unbreakable. Rot in our concepts only occurs when we have less than the Truth, ignorance of His revealed Word, and an absence of intimacy with the Savior.
While it may be true that Believers are being “stealthily cracked” it is not the fault of a novel (be reminded The Shack is a novel – not a theology text). Rather, it is the fault of the Church of Jesus Christ – that we have (and continue) built a Kingdom that is vulnerable, rather than the Kingdom of God which is unshakable, unassailable, and unconconquerable.
