Thought For The Day

The Winter of 2021

Cold! Thermometer showed -3 degrees. Water off at the meter. Pump house unheated with pipes frozen and broken. Got the car down the hill, but not back up. Well, that’s a short summary of my past week. I didn’t write. I just looked out the windows, worked on the plumbing, and drove around the fields in my old  4/4 Ford truck.  No Church on Sunday before last. No Wednesday Prayer and Bible Study. Had the best cake of my life, built by my bride for my birthday. Now, if only Winter 2021 is over.

An abundance of people had real problems. My tribulations melt into insignificance in the light of what some folks went through. I am blessed by God, and He is always good to me. . .much more so than I could ever deserve. God is like that! The simple Truth is that He lloves us, enjoys being with us, an offers a b0xcar load of gifts, blessings, and joys no matter the difficulty we see from our perspective.

We often forget that, along with a multitude of other Truths we seem to let slip from our heart and mind. Unlike Him we often miss an opportunity to provide some little help to a neighbor or friend, or stranger along the road of life. We don’t make that phone call that would bring a little joy to someone who is tethered to their home, or facility, or wheelchair, and cannot run and play in the snow. We miss the opportunity to reach out to some one, near or far-away, who struggles with “little” things like no electricity, no water, no friends, and no one to care for them in the darkness of loneliness.

I think I was reminded of some important things by this cold snap. I hope so! But I am also made cognizant that the needs of those around me is not limited to cold times, but exist every day in a profusion of opportunities to be the one who, like our Father, is there, caring, and ready to help.

Step up. See what is happening around you. Choose who will be next to see in you the likeness of our Father.
