USA, USA!!
I don’t watch swimming, volleyball, gymnastics, rowing, and the like, normally. But. . .when the Olympics roll around every four years, I find myself watching, cheering (quietly), and being very proud of those athletes who are competing for Olympic glory.
I haven’t seen a lot of the Games, but there is something inside me that is very proud when American athletes win GOLD, or SILVER, or BRONZE, or even a single heat on the sizzling fast track, or the tepid waters of the swimming venue.
I am proud to be an American. I don’t think that has to be noninclusive, or territorial, or selfish. I watch these kids – most of them are really young – who have given a major portion of their days on Earth to the hard work of becoming a “winner.” I am not depressed when they do not win. I even cheer for the other guys, sometimes, like yesterday, when Oscar Pistorius of South Africa took to the track for the semi-finals of the 400 metres. You know – he’s the guy with no legs below his knees (he finished second – to move on to the finals, if you are not keeping up).
We’ve got some great young people out there. They have been working hard for a long time, and some will work on – to 2016 and Rio.
Go get ’em, guys. I llove it!! I llove it!!!
