Vacation
It’s summer! Time for vacation – though why, I don’t know. A good Winter vacation (or Spring, or Fall) sounds good to me. I am ready to go. What I can’t decide on, however, is where to vacation.
I suppose you have to go somewhere where you are not regularly. Otherwise, you can’t avoid the normality of doing what you do all the time. “Stay-cations” won’t work. The only thing that is different is that you don’t go to work, instead you stay home and do what you always do when your are at home. What kind of vacation is that?
I don’t want to fly anywhere. Flying is a huge pain. . .and getting more so all the time. I don’t want to drive for hours on end – what is relaxing about that? All the places I want to see are somewhere between “to far to drive,” and “who can afford that?”
Maybe I will skip vacation this summer. I’ll just go to work every day, do what I always do, wish I were on some tropical island in the Pacific that is just across the street from my house. Or maybe I’ll climb a mountain or dive a blue hole – in my dreams, I mean. It’s to far and way too costly to get to Tibet or Ambergris Caye.
Summer will be gone in a heartbeat (albeit a hot heartbeat). I need a friend who has a cabin overlooking the most beautiful scenery in the World, that is 20 minutes from my office and a thousand miles from the closest encounter with work. I need an expansive beach where I can walk down the shoreline till I am tired and be back at the cabana in two minutes. If I could find a place to snow ski in the morning and eat lunch on the beach followed by a guided tour of a couple of the world’s most magnificent cathedrals. . .well, maybe I am thinking about Heaven or something like Heaven.
If you know someone who can help me. . .
