What Kind of Person
Someone (not a person associated with a Church or interested in my skills for hire) called my home Church Pastor this week to inquire about me. The caller wanted to know, “what kind of man is he?” I am not sure what he (my Pastor) may have said, or what the caller has found out from others, but it makes a great point.
There are precious few (if any) people who live their life in a vacuum. Who one is and what one does is seen, perceived, studied (sometimes) and examined, often with what my mother would call “a fine tooth comb.” Or, as I am likely to say, everyone is gonna’ know “your business” sooner or later.
If one knows that up front (and one does not have to run for public office to find this true) how one lives, day after day, ought to be one of highest priority. Just being a Believer does not place one above reproach, or even help portray an individual as the kind of person Believers are called to be.
I have long known that God expects His children to be obedient, holy, honest and faithful (just to pick a few Godly traits). If one does not concentrate in those areas, and many more, it is quite possible that a dark day of reckoning will come.
I know that the following edited (by me) passage of Scripture is vital to every man –
This is a true saying. A (man) then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without (The Faith), lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. (1 Timothy 1:3-7)
Pray that you might live your life “above reproach.”
