What’s Right, After All?
I am trying to remember my Civics lessons from the 10th grade (yes, we did go past 8th grade when I was young). I was thinking that the United Sates has a representative Government. By that, I mean the members of Congress represent the people of the Nation in legislative matters, and if a constituent, or represented person is “angry,” with their representative, wouldn’t that mean they feel they are not being fairly represented?
I have been reading a lot about the current legislation regarding health care (being old, that is an important issue to me) and I latched on to this sentence from an AP article by Charles Babington – the subject being discussions regarding abortion (read: pre-meditated murder).
“In a rare visit to the Capitol on Sunday, President Barack Obama urged Senate Democrats to overcome their differences and make history by overhauling the nation’s health care system — even if some of them might face angry voters.”
I understand that I am a representative of God to the Church of Jesus Christ. I suppose I could just decide to abandon some of His principles – like grace, llove, faith, etc., and teach salvation by good works, embracing those who embrace me first, and recognizing the age-old principal, “God helps those who help themselves,” but I would then be a poor (read: useless) representative. . .wouldn’t I?
Sometimes I think the only history we are making is a history of abandoning the principles on which this great Nation was founded, and abandoning the God who blesses us with His favor. I for one am a bit angry. . .well, if the truth be known, I am very angry!
