Exit – Stage Right
Bob Ray Sanders is a scary person. He is one of those folks who believe that because you have done, or are, this or that, you should forever be banned from speaking to the issue. Isn’t this America, where everyone, regardless of how wise or how foolish they are has the right to “speak their mind.” After which, of course, the rest of us have to decide which is which.
Here is a quote from Mr. Sanders column in yesterday’s Star-Telegram: “I’ve grown tired of hearing the former vice president[Dick Cheney] constantly criticizing the current administration. The curtain has fallen on his days in public office, and he should quietly take his exit — stage right, of course.”
But at least it give me the opportunity to answer a question I often hear. “Why do you, Christian West, write this blog instead of Pastor Bill? Can’t he speak for himself?” Well the fact of the matter is – not easily. There are many who think one who serves as Pastor of a Church, one which embraces all folks regardless of political persuasion, should never say anything about the operation of Government, the Political landscape, or use his influence, large or small, to make valid, accurate points.
I agree, as does my Pastor, that endorsing candidates, preaching political oriented sermons, or ranting about one’s point of view from the pulpit, is not only contrary to U. S. law (to some degree), but has no place where the job is to lift up the Savior, teach the Word of God, and clearly and accurately proclaim the Truth.
But he is reluctant to speak at all about the “issues” for concern of offending. I, on the other hand, don’t have a lot of problem with “speaking my mind” (again with the caveat that the reader has the right to determine its wisdom or foolishness).
So, for all of you who ask – He will continue to advise me, give me quotes, share his insight and wisdom regarding the Truth, and I will continue to write about whatever makes me happy – wise or foolish.
You don’t have to like what I write – and you can always comment – but I can promise you would like him. He is a wonderful guy. . .and very handsome and cultured.
