If one cuts  a ton of briars (briars are very light), and then burns them, they will not show up again for two or three days. Granted they are not as huge and damaging, but they are back. Taking a summer off from cutting will put one back in the same position which originally embraced hope to be finished. It’s time to surrender. The job is never going to slow down, and never ends.
