Election Time
Don’t you love it when the candidates for public office get their campaigns up and running? It is there that we see, in part, what our great Nation has come to. I suppose it has always been this way, but wouldn’t it be much better in the long run if candidates would debate issues, clearly articulate positions, never make commitments or promises they cannot keep, and dispose of the offal called “campaigning.”
I read in the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram the account of one local Mid-Cities campaign –
The over-the-top nature of the campaign is just about the only thing anyone can agree on. Candidates have tossed around words such as “nasty,” “ugly,” “disgusting” and “dishonest” to describe the tactics.(Yamil Berard)
The race for Governor of Texas has some of the same characteristics, and as we move closer to November we will see “more of the same.”
The issue, at least in my mind, is not the tactics themselves, but the “character” of those who use such, or allow such to be a part of their campaign. The Truth is clear in reminding us that what comes from the mouth (even if it is spoken by a minion of some sort) reveals what is in the heart (read: innermost being) of the campaigner.
Some would say that in today’s environment such tactics are required to win. In that case, we all lose.
