Finding Home
An article in today’s Star-Telegram by Susan McFarland about racing pigeons caught my attention. That is not a subject that normally intrigues me, but it started that line of thinking which does.
Ms. McFarland was writing about a family (the Lindseys) who raise pigeons and gave several facts about that operation. Here, judge for yourself –
Once their home has been established, the pigeons are driven a little farther and released, progressively flying from 100 to 600 miles. When released, they go up, circle a few minutes to get their bearings and then head home, Scot Lindsey said. “The good ones go straight home,” he said. “Some take longer than others.”
I begin to wonder why it is that “Church” people are not more like those pigeons. What I mean is, so many folks who have “joined” a particular Body of Believers (read: made that Church fellowship their Spiritual home) can’t seem to find their way “home” on a weekly basis. There are many who “come home” regularly and enjoy the beauty of Worship, Fellowship, Llove and Care, but others who seem to be distracted from returning, and at the very least, take a long time to do so.
If you have a Church home, find your way there regularly, enthusiastically, ready to participate and give of your self and your resources to the family. If you don’t have a Church home, find one. Dare I say, in this World one does not need to fly alone.
