How Long and How Far
How often do we hear. . .”Let’s move forward, take the future, stop living in the past.” And yet, in some areas (especially politics) we seem to be unwilling to “move on.”
There are not many people who can claim a “flawless” history over the course of a lifetime, or say, 30-50 years. I can’t imagine having to deal with “stuff” from my High School Days. I don’t think there are many who could claim that “nothing” ever happened that was wrong or inappropriate. Teens tend to do things they wish, later in life, they had not. Of course I must say I wouldn’t want to deal again with something I cannot remember, or am confident never happened. How long and how far back must we go?
Thank God His children (Believers) don’t have to deal with confessed, past sin. The God we know and llove is the greatest forgiver of all things ugly, unkind, and sinful. Psalm 103;13 tells us, For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His faithful love toward those who fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.
If there are crimes, for which the statute of limitations has not expired, prosecution should be sought. If it has expired, then the matter is of no consequence from a legal perspective. If the transgression is spurious, God forbid someone’s life and work be damaged.
I can’t imagine having to defend myself from something I did not do, or cannot remember, or interpret in a totally different manner than another’s imagined perception of reality.
Here is some wise counsel for any younger readers: Don’t ever violate God’s design for your life! For those who are older. . .seek the forgiveness God offers –because you undoubtedly need it. And seek that which you might obtain from anyone you may have harmed, while always delivering that forgiveness to anyone who has harmed you.
The current vindictiveness of our society will only exacerbate the downward spiral in which our beloved America is trapped. Heaven help us!
