Jumping to Conclusions
One will always want to be careful when jumping. For example, jumping off a bridge over a chasm of extreme depth, even while attached to a flexible tether, is, in my opinion, rather foolish. . .make that rather insane.
There is much talk these days about the National Day of Prayer and who is working against it. President Obama is often accused of some sort of attempt to eliminate that practice. The facts, however, do not support that. Pictures of the President circulating on the Internet of his joining with Muslim prayers in the Nation’s Capitol are pictures of an entirely different event (see his visit to the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, Turkey).
We cannot know how the President thinks or feels about the National Day of Prayer because he has not said (as far as I know) much about it. I am aware of his choosing last year not to host a prayer meeting at the White House on the proclaimed day. Let’s wait and see how this year’s proclamation goes.
What I do know is that I can pray, and you can pray, anytime, all the time, every time your heart and mind are tuned to communion with the Father. While a National Day of Prayer, observed by whoever is in political power, seems a good thing, God is anxious to hear from His children every day.
I will be so bold as to say this – if you are not praying every day, what is one more day, more or less, proclaimed and supported by the President? I think I won’t jump to any conclusions quite yet. And, I’m confident God won’t get in a dither about it either.
