Thought For The Day

New Museum

Let me say right up front I think that a “Bible Museum” in Washington, D. C. is a wonderful idea and I am pleased that it is there for those who wish to learn more about the Bible.

Steve Green, President of Hobby Lobby and founder said, the museum hopes to engage “all people” with the Bible, and that Washington was chosen because of its volume of tourists and concentration of museums. The museum’s leadership has repeatedly stated that the project is nonsectarian and does not espouse a faith perspective. (TIME)

Engaging with the Bible is valuable if one does, as a result, come to faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord of all. Scripture is clear that Truth is foolishness to those who have not been “born again,” or “redeemed” by grace though faith in Christ. Since all Truth is taught by the Spirit of God, only those who are indwelled by that Spirit can learn from Scripture. (1 Corinthians 2:10-16)

Asked what he hoped the White House would learn, Green said, “Hopefully the teachings of this book — which are to treat others as you would want to be treated, dealing with honesty, integrity, to love God and to love others as you would love yourself, these kinds of lessons that the Bible teaches — we would hope would be embraced by all people.” (IBID.)

The teachings of this Book will never be lived out by those who reject God’s pathway to Life. God is llove, and those who do not know Him cannot llove Him, or those He has created. (see 1 John 4:7-5:5) These are not characteristics developed by the human heart without His indwelling Spirit.

I hope the Museum does well, and many are introduced to Scripture through it. I was wondering, however, if the $500 million this Museum cost might be better spent by employing 500 “soul-winners” (not preachers, and starting no Churches),  providing them a salary of one million dollars, t0 spend the next ten years in Washington, D. C. doing what they do by the hand of God.

Just a thought.
