Thought For The Day

Praising God For “Essentials”

Some of us down here in the woods just went through a few days, like many do all over the Country, without any electric power and sometimes water in our home and neighbourhood. Nights were dark and day were filled with excessive heat, and we were reminded that those “little” things have become precious, and/or necessary for us to be comfortable, or in some cases, survive. We were reminded that 115 degrees is a bit warm, and 60-70+ mph winds are strong, and we have become dependent on electrical power to pump our water. Stumbling through the dark to the bathroom often finds one with sore toes. Emptying the freezer of a few hundred dollars worth of food is not pretty.

One essential that many often overlook is that of eternal life in Jesus Christ. The “things” of this World often distract us from an encounter with the reality that the end of time as we know is on the horizon. Perhaps Christ will return for His Bride one day soon, but if not, then we all face the reality that life here on Earth is shorter today than yesterday. Failure to know and accept the TRUTH will not continue forever. Don’t discount the gifts of God, which we all enjoy, even. when, the vast majority of people ignore the Giver of such “simple” things as light, water, regulated hot and cold,  even the food we eat, and the very air we breathe (which we continue to pollute), are bestowed on us in – spite of our foolish ways – because He lloves us with an infinite llove.

Our minor struggles (here where we live) were/are little compared to so many these days. We still have a house, and we are uninjured. Our HVAC is working, and lights and water restored. Praise to Him from whom all blessings flow. He is Lord of all, and we are redeemed from the curse of sin and death.
