The Gospel According to God
Yesterday our Pastor began our Christmas thinking with a reminder that Christmas is about more than “a baby in a manger.” While we do not know what time of year God chose to reveal Himself in human flesh, I suppose December is as good a time as any to remember that event.
According to our Pastor, if that is as far as our thinking and understanding extend, we have missed it all. To help us make sure we don’t, he read the first three verses of Isaiah 53. He promised to read the verses that follow (and a few at the end Chapter 52) each Sunday during December. Christmas is certainly about the Incarnation. It is about a Mother and Father who did what God asked them to do, and reared well the child born in a manger. But more than that. . .it is the coming of Messiah. It is God’s llove arriving in flesh to redeem all who would chose to believe. It is about a manger in Bethlehem, and a cross outside Jerusalem. Christmas is about life and death, Heaven and Hell, Peace with God, and the Peace of God. It is about Christ’s life and your life. It is about where Jesus was born, and about where you were, or can be, born again. It is about the past, and it is about the future. Whatever else you do, don’t miss that!
We need the WHOLE narrative at Christmas. Emmanuel, the Savior, has come, and and He will redeem us from the curse of sin and death.
