The Trajectory of Life
I read an interesting article this morning from Scientific American. Samyukta Mullangi commented on another article taken from the New York Times. The NY Times article “declared that the rising rate of suicides among our baby boomer generation now made suicides, by raw numbers alone, a bigger killer than motor vehicle accidents! Researchers quoted within the article pointed to complex reasons like the economic downturn over the past decade, the widespread availability of opioid drugs like oxycodone, and changes in marriage, social isolation and family roles.
Mr. Mullangi said he “scrolled down, as I always do, to peruse some of the readers’ comments.”
Of those comments he listed, many seemed exactly what one would expect. However according to Mullangi, many of the readers of the NY Times article “acknowledged, the slow burn of aspirations meeting harsh reality, the progressive compromise of our deepest wishes, and surrender of hope for change in the future is the disappointing but normal trajectory of a human life.”
Is that really how life is seen by so many? Are the “youth” of our society convinced that all that lies ahead of them is “aspirations vs. reality,” a “compromise of our deepest wishes,” “and a surrender of hope?” Do young people (or people of any age) see that as the “normal trajectory of life?”
How sad is that? But then, I am not really surprised. Our future is a mess from every perspective except one. Hope that America will continue to be all that it could and should be is diminishing every day. Failure to compromise on basic principles and Truth, is seen as radical and dangerous. Aspirations for greatness are routinely killed by the understanding that society is consistently being “dumbed down” to the lowest common denominator, and life is more “survival” than “victory.”
Only one leader offers an absolute opposite. What one aspires to obtain is infinitely possible, our deepest desires and dreams fulfilled in precise conformity to His leading, and an always abundant hope is available driving us toward perfect peace.
His name is Lord. His name is Jesus. He is the Master of all things and rules over life without less than the best of all things. His message is Hope. His design is Llove. His way is Truth.
