I really can’t imagine the magnitude of those fires in the California mountains. I have seen some pretty big fires, and fought a few smaller fires, but those are just awesome. I heard on the radio one man say, after being told to evacuate, “I am not leaving. If my house goes, I am going with it.” That is some commitment to a house. Of course he is confident that he will be able to do something to save his house and property (or others will), and is probably not a man who has worked around fire sufficiently to understand its incredible power and seemingly infinite changeability.
