Thought For The Day

And the Difference Is?

It’s about this time every four years when people begin to ask me to comment on the Presidential election. They forget that I am old enough to know that what ever one says, whatever position one takes, however one comments, it is likely to offend some folks.

I did find this comment regarding Mr. Obama and Mr. McCain by Julian Zelizer, Professor at Princeton, enlightening, however. “The image they’re presenting is the same — they’re the agent of change, the reform candidate, they’re the one who will reach out to the other party.” And this one, “They are peculiarly connected,” the words of Stephen Hess, a scholar at the Washington-based Brookings Institution.

I understand that to mean that we are going to have to look deeper than policy and approach. Since politicians seldom do what they say, and often say they did what they didn’t, it goes back to that same old problem we have been dealing with for a number of years. Character. It is more important than ever that we understand who these men are. Who one is will always dictate what one does. It is a bit hard at times to tell them apart politically. Consequently, we need a second look. It’s a decision, believe me, that will profoundly affect our Nation, and its effects will impact the World.

You might want to be really careful!
