Thought For The Day

Blood in the Water

It’s a shark-like response. Not much happens regarding people and sharks until the first drop of blood hits the water, then – look out. Someone, if not everyone, is going to get savaged.

Time.com says it all in their headline – Why We Can’t Celebrate the Edwards Split? In the story that follows we are reminded of other high profile couples, and how people have “cheered” their split or urged the wife of a larger-than-life hero to “walk away” from their “cheating” husbands.

The “news” is headline stuff, water-cooler gossip, TV fare for the trashy “news” programs. There’s a sense that “everyone” wants to know the latest details – blood in the water.

I propose a new take on these things. Don’t listen, don’t talk, don’t opine, don’t judge, and by all means, don’t joke. Why must anyone make a living or even a conversation brandishing the ugly affairs of some one’s life? If left alone, what are the chances the marriage might be restored, the sanctity of a home renewed, bitterness and anger might become forgiveness and hope?

Is there room for anything regarding our involvement in these disasters? Yes! Pray. Pray that God’s intervention will come to fruition. Pray that our Father will send a Godly counselor to apply wisdom, llove, hope, and peace to the wound that cuts deeper than most, and damages forever.

The Time story said – This was a union that took some hard knocks. But it seemed to be pulling through. Like an old gunslinger down on ammo but fending off the lynch mob, the marriage had people rooting for its survival.

But then, here came the sharks! God forbid we should even be in those waters.
