Thought For The Day

Exercise

I am a firm believer in exercise. Everybody ought to do a little, and most folks should and could do a lot more. If its been a while since you did any – start slow and work your way up to doing things which provide some challenge for you. There are lots of groups you can join, or you can exercise with a friend, or you can go it alone.

There’s no question that exercise is good for the body, and there is growing evidence that staying physically active can help slow the normal declines in brain function that come with age. Health groups recommend that adults try to get at least 150 minutes of moderate-to-intense activity a week to keep their hearts healthy — but is that the same amount that’s needed to keep the brain sharp? Exercise is good for your brain. Reading, listening, observing, working on various mental tasks, even working with challenging mental games is vital to offsetting the effects of aging.

One of the best activities for your brain is reading, studying, sharing, discussing, and communicating the Word of God. Those folks who are diligently involve in Bible Study are continually  learning not only about what “was and is, and is to come,” but find daily applications for using its infinite principles. If you doubt that, read Psalm 19 to discover the valuables that are available to you in that marvelous revelation.

“Exercise is a really, really great thing for the brain,” Joyce Gomes-Osman, an assistant professor in physical therapy and neurology at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine says. “We need to learn more, since we have nothing better at this moment to combat cognitive decline.” (IBID.)

Comprehensive study of God’s Word is certainly the best path to understanding life, in all its dimensions, and leads us into an exciting relationship with the Author.
