Thought For The Day

Getting It Right

I will admit that my favorite political writer/commentator is Ann Coulter. In a commentary today she takes up the case of Miss USA contestant, Carrie Prejean. However one may feel about these contests and the morality of those associated with such things, it is always encouraging to me when someone “in the media” gets it just exactly right.

You may not be keeping up with this saga, so let’s just say that Miss Prejean is, by her own confession, a Believer. She said, during the pageant, that marriage should be between one man and one woman. She has been viciously attacked for her position.

Now comes Ann Coulter with some commentary that warms the concern in me that there are any out there in the predominate media who know the Truth. Ms. Coulter said (among other things; you should find and read the article) that, according to “the popular media,”

“Christians are supposed to be fat, balding sweaty little men with bad complexions. It’s liberals who are supposed to be the sexy ones. (I know that from watching “The West Wing” and all movies starring Julia Roberts.) But sadly for liberals, in real life, the fat, balding sweaty little guy with the bad complexion is Perez Hilton and the smoking-hot babe is Carrie Prejean.”

“Christians aren’t people who believe they are without sin; they’re people who know they’re sinners and are awestruck by God’s grace in sending his only Son to take the punishment they deserve. This is in contradistinction to liberals, all of whom believe they’re on a fast track to heaven on the basis of being “basically good” people — and also believe that anyone who disagrees with that theological view is evil.”

Yea, Ann! In such a public venue we are reminded that we are redeemed by the Son of God who took my sin and my punishment so that I might be reconciled to God, and that being “basically good” has nothing to do with it. Yea, Ann!
