Thought For The Day

Getting Killed

We’re getting killed! I hope you take that in the euphemistic way in which I mean it (you know, when your favorite football team is behind by 40 points).

Willow Creek, who told us they had Church right and all the rest of us had it wrong, is now telling us they didn’t. They are developing a new plan (right, of course, in their thinking) which will soon follow the former. The Reformed guys are heavy into preaching the Gospel (a mandatory best thing) and ministering the sacraments (a good thing) with a heavy dose of liturgical sameness (OK, but not mandatory). The Emergent Church is so far out there. . .well, let’s just say they don’t even need the Bible. Surely we don’t think that God intended his “Body” to be so fractured and loose and the edges so frayed it may all come apart. It’s hard to find a place where people llove God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength, and each other. . .really and adequately.

Meanwhile the “brethren” at Baylor University (for example; it could be hundreds of other places) can’t stop fighting with each other, Oprah is drumming non-Biblical  “New Thought” philosophy to some 46 million people each week, “Christian Celebrities” are stumbling around looking like the World, acting like the World, and sounding like the World, and their followers are all mixed up. God forbid you should watch a lot of the “religious” channels on TV and expect to find anything close to Biblical Christianity.

Meanwhile, back at your local Church, It’s feast or famine in attendance and financial resources (it’s called consistency) and the ability to minister to a community depending on who will volunteer. . .sometimes.

What’s a believer supposed to do, or what are believers going to do? Somebody needs to do something! God can’t be pleased with this mess.
