Thought For The Day

God Instruction

It is likely that by the time you read this our Pastor will have covered the verse in Hebrews (our Wednesday night Bible Study) that says, By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days. (Hebrews 11:30). The commentary will read “the people did nothing militarily to cause the fall of Jericho; they simply followed God’s instruction in faith.”

That is an instruction which is universal in scope. There is nothing humanly we can do regarding many of the obstacles in our life. They are simply beyond our ability, our wisdom, even our insight. Consequently, it is mandatory that we simply follow God’s instruction – and that with great faith.

Transition times are difficult, especially when they affect multiple areas of our life. Many, maybe most, people have a desire to manipulate the circumstances, or stack the deck, so that the outcome meets the predetermined prerequisites we choose. In so doing, we not only suffer the consequences of our ignorant inability, but we damage the growth and exercise of faith that is required to follow God.

Some have long ago determined that following God, and His instruction, is preferable to winding one’s way thru the maze of alternatives that always accompany the “Jericho walls” of life.

I’ll leave it to you to determine your impossible circumstances in which you would be wise to consider Joshua’s obedience.
