Thought For The Day

Incredible Ship

Remember when folks used to crowd around the television and the “news” carried the live feeds for hours? While it may have been on TV this morning, I couldn’t find it, and I wanted to see this next to last mission.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – Endeavour blasted off on NASA’s next-to-last shuttle flight, thundering through clouds into orbit Monday morning. . . . (Associated Press)

Several years ago I was in Florida on business and went for a run on the beach outside my hotel. I ran South for three or four miles when I began to see more and more people arriving on the beach. I had no idea a shuttle launch was scheduled – but as I looked down the coastline – I saw it – far in the distance – but a sight never to be forgotten.

Just before launching, commander Mark Kelly thanked all the who put hands “on this incredible ship.”

From the beginning of the Shuttle Program I have been awed by the power required to send “the incredible ship” into space. Seeing it “live” exceeds beyond measure the images on television.

I long to see the infinite, incredible, available power of God displayed in His Church. I have no doubt that reading about that power in God’s Word would pale in light of its actuality in the day to day walk of Believers who would live above the worry and distress of life’s issues. To see lives changed, homes renewed, problems resolved, and Churches infused with victory and joy, would be an awesome experience.

One day this “incredible ship” we call Earth will reverberate with His coming – and everything will change in the light of His presence. The essence of that power is available – even today. Isaiah said, “Wake up, wake up, put on the strength of the LORD’s power.” (Isaiah 51:9a)
