Thought For The Day

It’s All Over But the Leftovers”

Thanksgiving Day is gone for 2021. We have 364 days to avoid turkey soup, turkey sandwiches, turkey hash, dressing with giblet gravy, and I for one am not disappointed. We had a feast, the kids, and the grandkids (a few are still hanging out), but the noise has debilitated and the table has an empty chair or two now that they are gone.

Thanksgiving, however is a vital daily commodity that we often ignore. I would like to think that we are thankful day by day for our new life in Christ, His infinite Truth, llove, peace, provision, and  strength, for our family of Believers (the Church), along with His indwelling Spirit to guide, guard, and be our teacher, and leader throughout the journey we will experience till Christ comes to take us home to be forever in His presence.

Unfortunately that is not what occurs in most lives most of the time, We get busy with life – work, travel, problems, finances, taxes, politics, health issues, ad infinitum – and don’t set aside time to talk with God about how thankful we are for everything from Calvary to Glory. I want to postulate that setting a time, while a wonderful idea, is not required. . .at least on a regular basis. We can whisper a “thank you” to God at any time of the day or night.  The Thanksgiving meal is not the only time our thankfulness is proper.  Ir doesn’t have to precede or follow a time of prayer or Bible study, and one does not have to be in the building where the family of God gathers to Worship.

I like to thank our magnificent Father as i wander through the beautiful woods in which I live. I often breath a “thank you” Father when the car behind me stops short of my back seat, or some one fails to disturb my peace attempting to make me angry. I can be thankful in the shower for hot water and soap, and when the building where I Worship has a few extra people showing up.

Some say, “it ain’t over till it’s over.” I say it “ain’t over” here till I see Him face to face entering the gates of Glory. Then I will really know how to do it right – forever.
