Thought For The Day

It’s In the Air

There is a chill in the air! No, I haven’t “lost it,” at least not completely. I know it is the season of 90+ degrees days, and the humidity is as thick as fog. Probably like you, I am looking forward already to the cooling days of Fall, when the beauty of the woods is at its peak.

The “Chill” is the uncertainty that has become a familiar host of our journey through the World. Should we go out? We need groceries, an Estate Sale, a trip to the park, a swim in the lake, a visit with friends – old and new -, and a seat at Church next to someone we llove dearly. . .who is not wearing a mask and gloves.

Talk of a new “shut down” is prominent. What exactly does a “stay at home” order mean, anyway. This is America, land of the free and home of the brave. We don’t hide out! We go out! What? No restaurants open except maybe the drive through? Why can’t I walk into the bank and see my favorite teller, and withdraw a little money so I can buy a ticket to the Music Hall? What do you mean – “It is closed too?”

Is it possible America will become like so many “third World” countries? I have been there, done that, and returning to this once magnificent land of incredible beauty, breathtaking freedom, and unfettered prosperity, was a given that would never change. My home, the United States of America, the pinnacle of societal progress, that chooses it’s leaders wisely, follows the “laws” of the land, provides for the care of those unable to sustain their own existence, and worships the one True God of Heaven and Earth was always there, strong, brave, with no thought or danger of failure or defeat.

Perhaps it is time for the “New Normal.” “There’s a land that is fairer than day, And by faith we can see it afar; For the Father waits over the way ,[He’s] prepared us a dwelling place there. Refrain: In the sweet by and by, We shall meet on that beautiful shore; In the sweet by and by, We shall meet on that beautiful shore.” (Sanford F. Bennett)
