Thought For The Day

Living Large

I was looking at an article in MONEY magazine. I am not sure why. I don’t have much, and they didn’t have any information on how to get more than I’ve got without working at it. The article did remind me that for many folks no matter how much you have it is never enough.

Oil tycoon Harold Hamm was ordered to pay his ex-wife, Sue Ann, $1 billion. Even if you and your spouse don’t have that kind of money, pay attention. In one of the largest divorce settlements on record, the chairman and CEO of energy giant Continental Resources was ordered Monday to pay his ex-wife $995.4 million, according to the Associated Press. As part of an Oklahoma judge’s ruling, Harold Hamm must pay his ex-wife, Sue Ann Hamm, $322 million by the end of the year, and pay off the rest of the money in monthly installments of at least $7 million. The “pay attention” part indicated she didn’t get nearly enough. I kept thinking one really has to “live large” to need a monthly income of $7 million – and that on top of a $322 million start.

The Scripture say that “the llove of money is a root of all evil.” I can’t imagine how people can get so committed to money that they abandon their morals, their families, their peace, their well-being, their joy, just for more money.

I told my lovely bride that if she left me the Judge would probably award her $32 before the end of the year, and $13 dollars a month till all my money was gone (she will be in trouble sometime in early Spring). Actually, come to think of it, I might be the one who gets the award since she owns the checkbook.

I’m glad my treasure is stored in Heaven. I have the promise that my heart will be there too.
