Thought For The Day

Looking For A Church

It seems that every Sunday of the year Believers are looking for a new Church. Many are doing so because they have planted their lives in a new area and need a Church nearby. Some are just disappointed in the Church they have been attending – so they begin a search for another. Still other have grown angry with someone or something and are determined to leave their current situation and find one more to their liking. (There are probably a hundred. . .or a thousand. . .other reasons also.)

I want to make a suggestion. As you look for that new Church, spend as much time looking at yourself – what you believe, what you practice, what kind of friend you are,  how committed you are to living a Godly life based on  God’s revealed Word, as you do sizing up a new Congregation.

All of the characteristics we look for in finding a Church must coincide with who we are as Believers. Otherwise, it won’t be long before we are looking again.

Now, in case you are lost as to what I mean: Are you committed to a “proper view of Scripture?” Make sure you find a Church that is as well. If they are and you aren’t, you are likely to miss your “sermonette.” Are you looking for a place where Scripture is taught and proclaimed with accuracy and authority? It won’t be a good fit if you are not committed to obedience to God’s Word in your personal thoughts and actions. Are you looking for place where you can share you life with others in various ministries and utilize your God given spiritual gift to minister grace to those around you? If so, be sure your Church is interested in such things. Multitudes are not.

In short, find a Church like you. Or better yet, find a Church like God, and allow Him to change your priorities and behaviors.
