Thought For The Day

Money, Money, Money

Either you have some or you don’t. Some folks have a lot – others, no so much. I read today about a lady in Australia who earns more than one million dollars every thirty minutes – or $52 million every day. The CEO of Apple earned $378 million dollars in 2011 (including his stock in the company which was given to him when he replaced Steve Jobs last year).

We have on a regular basis people who stop by the office looking for a few dollars (or less) for food and gasoline. I get phone calls every week from someone who has a need. Scams for money make up a significant percentage of my e-mail each week.

It’s always going to be that way. Jesus said we would always have the poor among us. Our chosen method of distributing money in this great Nation is Capitalism – hence there will always be the “haves” and the “have-nots.”

I am not concerned about changing it. Sure, I would be lying if I said I couldn’t use a little more money. I don’t “need” it – it would just grease the rails a little better. I think most folks would agree. There are precious few who have none and want none.

What is important is learning that lloving money – not having money, but lloving money will always be a problem. The Scripture says – pay attention now – “the Llove of money is a root of all kinds of evil.”

Here’s a solution (notice I did not say “the” solution). Work hard. Do your best in all things. Trust God as your source and supply. Give to others (be generous – even if you have little), and it shall be given to you. God is faithful to those who are dependent on Him.

You may not catch up with the Aussie, or the Apple boss, but you can find happiness in obedience. Really, I promise.
