Thought For The Day

Open Mouth. . .

Scripture warns us that we need to “watch our mouth.” My mother often gave me that advice as a boy, and my wife has never been hesitant to make the same warnings.

Some people never seem to learn as this report from Associated Press clearly shows:

U.S. Airways flight 399 carrying 130 people departed about 4:30 p.m. Saturday for Phoenix, but the Airbus 320 returned shortly after takeoff, to Las Vegas spokeswoman Candice Seeley said. “The passenger made some sort of threat” after the plane landed, Seeley said. She didn’t know specifics. Police were called and they met the aircraft.

We can only speculate what might have been said. Heaven knows, after some flights, one might want to say a lot of inappropriate things.

But keeping our mouth in check, using our voice for that which is true, right, and good, is a mark of both mental and spiritual maturity. It was the Apostle James who said, “The tongue is a fire. . .a world of unrighteousness. . .and pollutes the whole body, sets the course of life on fire, and is set on fire by Hell.”

Wherever you are, and whatever you are doing, watch that mouth, will ‘ya. It can get you in a world of hurt.
