Thought For The Day

Possible vs. Easy

I read a short narrative about a young lady (16) who was born without a nose or eyes. It has been a tough struggle because insurance would not pay for facial reconstruction and prosthetic eyes. As she has reached her physical growth potential, the family is moving forward on doing as much as they can to make her face “appear” as normal as she is in every other way.

It is a statement she made that captured my attention and reminded me how many “normal” people fail to live up to their potential.

“Things always may be hard,” Cassidy told ABCNews.com. “But here’s what I think: I don’t need easy, I just need possible.”

A long time ago a mentor told me that “unrealized potential” is the most common commodity in the World. I still think he is right.

From a spiritual perspective (and that is the most important perspective) there are multitudes (an understatement – I suppose I should say “all”) of Believers who will not live up to the potential that is theirs in our Lord Jesus Christ. With the promise of  “the mind of Christ,” “limitless empowerment,” and available faith that makes “all things possible,” it is little less than failure to live  a mediocre life.

Paul, the Apostle, said, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13).

Now, that is a challenge!
