Thought For The Day

Reality

There is a hint of depression in the air. Talking to people, even watching people, it is clear that this year has been filled with struggles and difficulties. It is impossible to put in order the problems that have faced us, but sometimes, staying at home, or going out under the duress of getting a virus, wearing a mask, physical distancing, and avoiding contact with family, friends, associates, and random strangers, leaves us with a bit of mental instability.

Perhaps we are getting to know our family better, or learning how to cope with limited opportunities to socialize,  or recognizing that the World will not end if we don’t eat out, go to movies, or take a vacation, but it does leave us with some mental disturbance. Add to that the senseless hoarding of supplies by foolish people, loss of employment, shortness of financial resources, and a Government that can’t get its act together, it is no wonder people need help and hope.

Let me suggest one possible light in all the darkness. Talk to someone (not in your family) about how you are having concerns regarding life as it is now. They may not have any answers for you, or may just be rejoicing that someone is feeling the way they do, but the spirit of caring about each other is often therapeutic.

Most of us want others to believe that we are strong, self-reliant, capable of dealing sufficiently with problem areas in our life, and normally we are – or not. But this is a unique time for most people. Loneliness is problematic. We are designed by our Creator  to be involved with others, to care, to llove, to share, and to confide in mutual confidentiality. If you don’t know anyone in whom you can confide, contact a professional counselor. It may mean that a life in crisis (no matter how small) will get better. Who knows –  you might just help someone in great need.
