Thought For The Day

Security

Having a security plan and active security measures is always wise. But the reality is that there is no place that is more open and welcoming than the Church of Jesus Christ. The Church where I attend services welcomes guests every Sunday. Some are families with children, others, just couples, and not unusually single men and women. The question arises regarding whether or not there is room for greater scrutiny of people we don’t know as “regulars” when the doors are open.

Our Nation as a whole has moved toward major restrictions regarding entry to many “public” places. Airports, Government buildings, parks and even the library are places where one almost has to get undressed and semi-handled before entry is allowed. Can we bring that sort of thing into the Church?

I don’t think so. In fact, I am sure the only real security in life is trusting Him as we understand those portions of God’s Word that tells us clearly that God Himself is in control of each life, our physical death, and our eternal security. I am convinced that He will protect me from every harm that He has not planned or allows for my life, but nothing can thwart His will for my future regardless the intensity of security measures.

We must be reminded that we reap what we sow (Galatians 6:7-10). Sometimes we reap what others sow. Awful things happen to good people, and good things happen to awful people. God has set this World in motion and presides over it in all His sovereignty.

I can live with that. . .or not.
