Thought For The Day

Society Changes

Respect. Everybody (almost) wants it. Most all think they deserve it. Some do, some don’t. It appears Police want respect for their authority and many times they don’t get what they are looking for. Individuals involved in confrontations, especially with the Police, want to be respected as Citizens who have various and certain rights which they believe are being ignored. Is it a problem with racial discord, or is it an issue of the misunderstanding which often occurs between those more immature as they interact with those more mature? Could it be that it is neither of those, rather the naturally degenerating order of mankind who are losing, or have already lost, the Truth of what people have been designed to be and how they  are to behave in relationship to others.

The “I” or “Me first” generations that have become prominent since the middle of the 20th century have changed our society in a manner that now infects every interpersonal relationship. The discipline of “seeking what is best for others” (see 1 Corinthians 13:4-8), is losing or lost. The focus on “treating others as we would like to be treated” (see Matthew 7:12) has slipped from consciousness for many, if not most, and the concept of “brotherhood” (see Genesis 4:9) among men (and women) is likely gone among all but shrinking numbers.

The biggest mistake humankind make is in thinking this is our World. It is not. We are but brief residents in this life, on borrowed time, occupying temporary space. The future awaits only the patience of Almighty God.

How patient is He? That’s the question!
